LawMom was the first blog of a fellow mom in law school that I stumbled upon. I think, at the time, I was a 1L, and she was in the application/acceptance process. But she was a MOM! And she was going to Law School!
It felt good to not be the Only One.
Of course, after that initial discovery, I found many other blogging moms in law school, and since then, many others have come along.
But as we went along in law school, Kim’s story branched off from my own.
Kim was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. Since her diagnosis, she has shown so much courage and grace as she’s blogged and shared with all of us what it is like - internally, externally, familially - to struggle with this particular disease. Every time I read her posts, I am grateful to her. I am grateful that she has shared with us, and not only let us know how it feels for her, but likely how it feels for the dozens of people we each likely know who is going through something similar. She has worked toward shattering that taboo, and letting us all think about the disease, and about what it means to those battling it.
And now we can all say thank you to Kim, as she has been nominated for an awesome scholarship. If enough people vote, she will be awarded $10,000. For those of us who know how damned expensive law school is - and those of us who know how expensive it is to deal with child care and extra curricular activities and other requirements of kids - to imaging putting medical bills on top of that — does anyone need this scholarship more? Not that I can imagine!
Read Kim’s explanation of the contest, and her entry here.
Then go vote! So easy!! Kim Klein - the 7th one down on this list.*
* The link is fixed now. How stupid was I? Thanks, She Says, for pointing out my stupidity. I will just rest easy knowing that I had also linked to many other places with proper links …. sorry, Kim.

Yay! Vote for Kim!!
